R.I.P Palm Centro

On August 7th, I purchased my white iPhone 3GS and put in my desk drawer my beloved Palm Centro. Although some might consider me overly sentimental, I believe my Centro deserves some credit. In the world of iPhone and Blackberry, my Palm Centro stood its ground as a great budget device. Coming in at 99 dollars for smartphone, with a sturdy OS and the support of a expansive network. My Palm Centro wooed me. The LG Voyagers and Samsung Alias shined in the spotlight, but couldn’t beat my Centro on one thing. Simplicity. The Palm OS had way about itself where I could access calls and texts faster than any Verizon branded phone, without the cheesy graphics. The speed and the robustness beat out every talked about LG this or Samsung this.

The actual device was a tank. Dropped and slid across a plethora of surfaces, my Centro stood firm. A couple of battle scars here and there but it wouldn’t matter. It would still work. And talk about great Mac compatibility. The disks that were included installed nicely onto my Mac, and backed up every time I plugged in the USB, worry-free. When I had to receive to a new Centro (problem with a key) all my contacts were saved and synced worry free. What I thought would be a hassle of inputting new numbers, was saved by the trusty Centro

I can talk all day about my crush on the Centro, but I shall not. This post will finally put to rest my thoughts on the device. After a few videos on YouTube, I want to say that it was a great device when I was using it. And even now, using my flashy iPhone 3GS, some geek inside of me will miss that simplicity of the Centro.
